Entre o Arquivo Histórico da Casa da Ferreirinha e os Symington Family Archives : os documentos da Quinta do Vesúvio
Paula Montes Leal
Documento (.pdf)
AbstractQuinta do Vesúvio was bought by António Bernardo Ferreira I (uncle and future father-in-law to D.ª Antónia Adelaide Ferreira) in 1823. The quinta remained in the hands of the Ferreira family for over a hundred years and in 1989 was purchased by the Symington family. For this reason it is possible to find documents related to Quinta do Vesúvio both in the Arquivo Histórico da Casa Ferreirinha and in the Symington Family Archives. Although the dates are not absolutely coincident (since in the Historical Archive of Casa Ferreirinha they go from 1823 to 1989, while in Symington they go from 1850 to 1956), these files are complementary and reflect the form of management of the House of Ferreira in the 19th century: the offices in Porto and Régua and the administrations of the quintas (keepers and overseers), who assiduously and periodically, were accountable to the offices. Reference will also be made to the documentation relating to Casal de Arnozelo, Casal do Ourosinho, Quinta da Coalheira, Quinta de Porrais and Quinta de Vargelas, properties which, in the organization of the House of Ferreira, were part of the «Administration of Vesúvio».
