#Abstract
The article discusses the representations of old age in the chronicles of Rui de Pina, taking as a basis specifically those from D. Sancho I to D. Afonso IV. In attempting to contribute to a better understanding of the ideas and the representations related to seniority in Portugal at the end of the Middle Ages, the author concludes that if there is indeed a critical view of old age, this is not due to any aesthetic ideal or to physical ugliness, but rather to illness and corporal suffering. Thus, it is possible to conclude that the chronicles which were analysed reflect the models of their time.
