#Abstract
Issues related to public policies to improve the quality of life of the elderly are the subject of research at national and international levels. It is based on the assumption that people in old age have the right to live and coexist in social environments, share experiences with the community that favour their insertion in social segments in a pleasant and productive way and the right to increase their longevity. Walking along this path, this action research, carried out in 2016 in the Todos os Santos community in the municipality of Teresina, Piauí, Brasil, used literary circles as a therapy mechanism, with activities programmed and developed for about 20 elderly people in a school in the same municipality. It was observed that the therapeutic literary circles boosted the improvement of the quality of life, with regard to the mental and social paradigm, since this space became a favourable environment for dialogue between the elderly and paths for interactive coexistence.
