Miguel Torga e os reflexos da emigração : perigo e liberdade em
O Senhor Ventura
Carmen Matos Abreu
Documento (.pdf)
AbstractIt’s commonly known that the central motive of the migratory phenomenon has always been to attain prosperity and economic and social well-being. Those who depart frequently face unexpected physical or emotional disturbances, some victories, and defeats, unable to shake their pride. Untying sentimentalisms and promising fortune and happiness, the dream of social rising always invites to the adventure, such as happened to the hero of the novel O Senhor Ventura, by Miguel Torga. In the middle of the 20th century, the Portuguese Literature described pictures of real life, including the adventurous spirit of the Portuguese identity beyond borders. By taking part in some new societal structures in the Orient and demonstrating his ability of intelligence, tenacity, and readiness, the torguian hero became socialized and self-transformed, confirming the persistent Portuguese commitment and adventurism — after all, psychological features of the Portuguese identity that were never denied.
