Alvarengas, trapiches e estiva : a região portuária de Salvador no século XIX
José Ricardo Moreno Pinho
Documento (.pdf)
AbstractDescribes the port area, the food supply space of the city of Salvador in the second half of the nineteenth century, a period of classification between forms of accumulation. highlights the precariousness of the land routes and the role played by the sea routes that linked the producing centers of leguminous, flour and other genera from the concave and the supply of charqueada meat from the region of Rio de la Plata and Rio Grande do Sul. This will reveal the dual function of the soteropolitano port, known as exporter and importer in the great navigation and the importance acquired by the cabotage trade, which grew due to the displacement of investments previously destined for clandestine slave trade and for large shipping, in order to meet the growing demand of the population of the Bahia state.
