Documento (.pdf)
AbstractDate of March 16, 1843, the Decree N°. 155 establishing the creation of the city of Petrópolis, located in the mountainous region of the state of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), from the leasing of farm land 'CórregoSeco' of the Major Julio FredericoKoeler. The designation of the German engineer, Major Koeler, was required due to the development of the plan called "Pavoação-Palácio de Petrópolis" the Emperor Dom Pedro II. From this plan begins the development of historical plants aimed at the city planning that was based on building a summer palace for the imperial court, along the lines of the European courts, and in support of this palace an agricultural colony that over time it was shaping up along the steep slopes and valleys embedded in Petropolitan landscape. All these factors reflect the current landscape framework that has a number of urban and environmental conflicts that mark this city with a strong tourist appeal, based on its imperial history, and occurrence of landslides and floods that generate environmental damage and human losses/cost very significant. In this sense, this paper seeks/this study aims from the survey of historical cartographic documents, understand how the city was planning to seek subsidies that allow to draw parallels between what was conceived and currently taking place in the city. For this, they were raised historical documents relating to two decades from the city's founding (1846 to 1861), in which it was identified five cartographic documents: two 'Planta de Petrópolis - 1846', 'Planta de Petrópolis - 1850', 'Planta Imperial Colônia de Petrópolis - 1854' and the plant 'Imperial Cidade de Petrópolis - osquarteirõescoloniaes - 1861'. Was observed in cartographic documents analyzed an increase of city blocks from the 'Plant Petropolis 1846', thereby implying longer in a city's growth projection. Is worth emphasizing that the 'Plant Petropolis' signed by the President of the Rio de Janeiro Province.
