AbstractNamed as UNESCO World Heritage in 1996, as well as the European Capital of Culture in 2001, Porto has become one of the most sought after Portuguese and European cities by tourists. Knowing its vast cultural offer, we have chosen, for the purpose of our thesis, to focus our attention on sixteen buildings from the Middle Ages and Early Modern Period. More specifically, our timeline spans from the 12th century – with the Church of São Martinho de Cedofeita – all the way to the 16th century – with the Church of São Bento da Vitória (1593). In this paper we show how we intend to analyse and inquire each of the ecclesiastical institutions, in the tourist context, for our master degree. In order to do so, we use the case of Oporto’s Cathedral.
