#Abstract
The text presented here was, at its time, the text presented in the tenth edition of the Workshop of Medieval Studies and, simultaneously, an initial version of the work that constituted the master's thesis with the same title presented to the University of Évora. It is, therefore, a relatively crystallized version of one of the many stages of development of the study, reflecting some of the issues that arose at that time and which would then be discussed, rebuilt or deconstructed, and which would lead to the final work. This paper tries to look at the ways in which the literates were represented in the medieval Portuguese chronicles, evidencing the discursive strategies of this representation and the connections between the discourse, its promoters and its auditorium.
