#Abstract
As Portugal became a member of the European Union, there was an enormous evolution in what concerns to the mechanization of the main tasks which are proper to the sectors of agriculture, livestock and forests. This mechanization brought some particular risks leading to a high number of accidents, most of them due to the use of tractors. By using official numbers as a starting point, in this paper, accidents are characterized in order to perceive their real dimension and the absence of official records is also discussed.
