El primero de los Cuatro Jinetes del Apocalipsis de Juan : aproximación al estudio del texto bíblico y su relación con algunas representaciones iconográficas, desde la Edad Media al Renacimiento
Manuel Aneiros Loureiro
File (.pdf)
AbstractThe apocalyptic literature has been widely represented throughout the Middle Ages in many different ways. Artists, based on biblical texts and Patristic exegesis, resorted to various figurative models in the different artistic expressions. The reason for this work is the iconographic analysis of an image of the apocalyptic literature and the relationship between the biblical text and its iconographic representation throughout the Middle Ages. The object of study is, in particular, the figure of the first horseman of the Apocalypse, the rider of the white horse, which John describes in Ap 6, 2. The most ancient and complete Greek text which is known (Codex Sinaiticus), which led to their Latin versions, contains lexemes that are susceptible to multiple interpretations. Discuss any of those terms, and at the same time we will see, through different images from the 9th century to the 16th century, as exegesis and the comments of the Fathers of the Church, a decisively influenced the medieval iconography of the first horseman of the Apocalypse, which adopts a different look with the arrival of the Renaissance.
