#Abstract
This article was intended to assess which mechanisms and principles were set out when writing a text in the Middle Ages, considering king D. João I and his sons’ literary work as study object. Some authorship indicators were proposed in order to detect the author’s presence in the analysed works as a new dynasty was emerging with teaching and moralizing concerns, as well as a means of political support.
