	Abstract This study aims to raise sociodemographic hypothesis for the history of the rural parish of Santiago de Bougado, settled in the historical “Entre Douro and Minho” space, county of Maia and under the Porto town jurisdiction, in the 18th century. Based on the analysis of an ecclesiastical source, the lists of confessed habitants, it was possible to reconstruct the evolution of the population, the families structure and the geographical mobility of its residents using a conceptual and methodological framework adopted by other regional, national and even international studies, trying to interpret the local in a larger and comparative view.
