#Abstract
The Morais Sarmento sisters were the first women to ever conclude a course in the University of Porto, in Medicine and Engineering. This article focuses on the biography of Aurélia, Laurinda, Guilhermina and Rita. It tries to understand their pioneering spirit in the detriment of other women at the end of the 19th century. Its aim is to investigate the father’s influency, Anselmo Evaristo, of his famous social circle and his profession on the paths taken by these women. It analyses the educational and personal journeys as much as possible. Meanwhile, it is also possible to understand the academic way of living in Porto.
