Resume
A política externa de D. Fernando, "o Inconstante"
Renata Moreira
File (.pdf)
AbstractThis article aims to identify whether the cognomen the inconstant fits D. Fernando, take into consideration the Portuguese foreign policy at the end of the 14th century. For this purpose, were analysed all the planned and signed marriages of the monarch, the political relations with some European kingdoms as is the case of Castile, Aragon, Navarre, England, and France. Besides the Hundred Years War and the strifes in which Portugal will stand up to Castile, we are facing a division of the Papacy, more precisely, the Western Schism that has intrinsically influenced Portuguese political alliances at the time. As principal sources to this study, were used the following: the Crónica de D. Fernando by Fernão Lopes; Des Chroniques Nationales Françaises by Jean Froissart; Bernardo Brito’s book, Elogio dos Reys de Portugal and, for last, the Quadro Elementar das relações políticas e diplomáticas de Portugal by Visconde de Santarém.
