#Abstract
The construction of the Toledo Cathedral started at the beginning of the thirteenth century; nowadays we know that the Portal of the Clock was the first to be concluded. The first iconography of this entrance is divided into four horizontal bands, which show scenes of the life of Christ; nevertheless, in the less striking spaces (mullion, jambs and outer vault) was placed a whole bestiary, Christian mythological and heraldic. It is therefore our intention to reflect on the symbolic strength that these animals had in a place as important as the one of this Portal in the last years of the Middle Ages, not discarding the possibility that these animals inhabited the different spaces by chance or mere artistic choice.
